Two styles that were introduced in Autumn Winter 2021 as part of our ‘Cocktail Collection’ are our next choice of His & Her’s styles – Plain Albert and our Women’s Pump, both in Black Watch Tartan. Both styles are easily wearable either in the comfort of the wearers home as actual slippers, or styled as suggested by our two esteemed Guest Authors, Hetty & Aleks.
For Him - Plain Albert in Black Watch Tartan
Albert slippers have been part of man’s wardrobe for time immemorial, but by no means should they be restricted to just pottering around at home. In fact, they’ve enjoyed a healthy renaissance over the past few years, particularly in relation to eveningwear and Black Tie. While plain velvet Albert slippers are traditional, Alberts are often made in classic tweeds or in tartans, as seen here. Black Watch too is an old school menswear favourite, and in this soft woollen cloth with neat leather soles and grosgrain edge-tapes, this pair of Alberts would make for a smart finishing touch to a dinner suit.
Personally, I love to wear Albert slippers with eveningwear. They’re a louche and yet reassuringly traditional choice (all the golden oldies used to wear them for Black Tie – Noel Coward, Cecil Beaton, Sir Hardy Amies – the lot) and this tartan pair would look swish dressed with either a classic black or midnight blue two-piece dinner suit, or else with a navy or bottle green velvet smoking jacket. My only piece of advice would be to keep the rest of your outfit plain; best to avoid any other splashy patterns or plaids. Instead, stick with a classic dinner jacket, white dress shirt and black silk bow tie, and let your Alberts do the talking. – Aleks Cvetkovic
For Her - Pump in Black Watch Tartan
Parties are on (well, most definitely so at the time of writing this), and whether staying in and hosting at home, or going out somewhere smart for cocktails or dinner, these pumps will be your firmest friends. Fitting perfectly into your weekend luggage for a house party, these multi-taskers can be worn with pretty much every outfit ensemble imaginable. From black tie gowns, to your silk pyjamas—if you don’t have any, invest in some from Olivia Von Halle, they are the best quality and her designs are divine (clashing in this case is absolutely encouraged). The Black Watch tartan is a government tartan, so wearable by all, and I can imagine these peeping out from underneath a thick silk taffeta gown with a full skirt, or even a silk slip dress with some feathers adorning perhaps? For those who lean to preferring a trouser option, sport with a black suit or with leather or velvet trousers, and be perfectly comfortable all evening—and able to run for the bus at the end of it. I would probably keep them for ‘best’, and when not wearing them, have them perched somewhere I can see them to remind me of party times gone by—and those fabulous soirées still to come. – Hetty Lintell
