There is no doubt that the lockdown hit us hard, with all our UK operations shut down in March, except for a skeleton staff at our Head Office to deal with financial matters, communications, monitoring events and formulating future business strategy. We didn’t initially expect such a long period of lockdown, and have had to revise our immediate business plans accordingly whilst remaining realistic and pragmatic about future business.
We have remained in contact with our wholesale customers throughout the lockdown period, especially those countries whose retail shops have continued to trade. Following a gradual return to work in Europe there is a need for us to re-open our factory production, although not at full capacity. This week sees the first time in nearly three months that the majority of our staff are back in our Northampton factory producing fine shoes, albeit under strict working conditions to ensure the health & safety of our staff and their families. The general consensus is that it is good to be back!
We will now be working hard to catch up on delayed orders, and re-building the business with all our customers around the world, as well as in our own retail stores, which with the exception of New York, have now reopened for business. We have missed the Spring/Summer season, but are optimistic about the future. Preparations are underway to share with you our involvement with the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, as well as the launch of our new collections for Autumn/Winter 2020. We know that everyone is frustrated by the impact of the virus, and are keen to get back to a sense of normality as soon as possible. We will do our best to support this and thank all of those customers who have offered kind words of support.
